The Challenge

Our client used multiple copies of outdated spreadsheets that were not consolidated, resulting in lost or incorrect information as there was no single source of truth. Furthermore, these spreadsheets lacked the necessary functionality to monitor machine production capacity in their factory, causing further inefficiencies and delays. It was crucial for our client to find a way to streamline their internal operations before they could focus on innovation.

The Desired Outcome

It was determined that client would benefit from an overview of their factory floor plan, including the locations of all machines. Additionally, it was necessary to cross-reference the new spreadsheet with another database of planned works, which would highlight all machines on the map undergoing maintenance on a given day. This solution would allow the client to manage their maintenance schedules more efficiently, leading to increased productivity and reduced downtime.

The Solution

Excel was chosen as the platform for the tool as it was Excel had the functionality to allow the user to project the relevant information onto screens within the factory, providing up-to-date information as soon as new entries are placed in the database. Additionally, other internal business processes were improved as certain areas for improvement were found during the development stage, including the data entry forms used to transfer information between different parts of the organization.
